- The full operating system is a free download for anyone who has purchased Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion or has a Mac preloaded with OS X Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, macOS Sierra, or macOS High Sierra. Download the Application from the Mac App Store using your Apple ID on any of these specific Macs.
- OS X Yosemite Supported Systems. Specifically, the following Macs are compatible with OS X Yosemite, but did not ship with the operating system by default. However, just because a Mac runs OS X Yosemite does not mean that it is compatible with all features.
- Peer-to-peer AirPlay requires a Mac (2012 or later) with OS X Yosemite or later and an Apple TV (3rd generation rev A, model A1469 or later) with Apple TV software 7.0 or later. Supported by the following Mac models: MacBook (Early 2015 or newer) MacBook Pro with Retina display (Mid 2012 or newer) MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer).
The single DVD works for all supported Macs (including 64-bit machines). New features include a new look, an updated Finder, Time Machine, Spaces, Boot Camp pre-installed, 206 full support for 64-bit applications (including graphical applications), new features in Mail and iChat, and a number of new security features.
